Thursday

Jessica was in Thursday to support students for the day.

The morning began with our morning circle, a full tapping routine, lots of releasing and our animal magic cards that accompanied during our sit spot time. Sharing ensued and the notices from sit spots matched the card meanings which was really cool to discover.

After circle, we dove into some Food Magic and chopped veggies to make a simple broth soup to simmer while we created outdoors for the morning. Everyone had a chance to participate in this creation; peeling, chopping and spicing up our soup.

Outside we are working on a snow taco, which is an outdoor structure utilizing three snow walls and two tarps. We broke out the spray bottles to encourage the snow to stick together and used shovels and block makers to create our walls.

At the end of the day we returned inside for some warm soup, car creation and races! Everyone created their own car with pre-made axels made with straws, hot glue and buttons. Students decorated their cars and we raced them down our 'table ramp' to see who could go the farthest and fastest.

Friday

Today we hosted a new friend named Jude as part of the PA Day Programming that we offer throughout the year. Jude has joined us over the past 3 summers for camp and was happy to be back and meet new friends.

With the temperature being a bit warmer than most of our mornings lately, we were able to spend most of the day outside! After the students bonded and enjoyed some morning free play, we began our morning circle routine. We took our sit spots in the yard and reflected on our animal spirit messages of the day. Afterwards, we revisited the snow structure that students started yesterday. I had the students each estimate where the highest point of the structure was by standing in that spot, then brought out a measuring tape to reveal the answer. We measured 12” at the highest point and the kids decided they wanted to increase it by just 3” today. They got to work creating more snow blocks with the awesome packing snow and ended up exceeding their goal! 17” was the new height measured. By this time toes were getting chilly so we headed inside to have a “Drawing Battle”.

Ethan suggested the idea and all were in! With ten minutes on the clock students drew whatever they wanted. When the time was up, each shared their drawings and anonymously voted for one of their classmates. I then read out the votes. We played three rounds before lunchtime.

During lunch everyone had some leftover soup. We then headed out for a hike and nature scavenger hunt, finding just about everything on our list!

Upon returning to the school we showed Jude what our sharing board time looked like and then had some hot chocolate to end the day.
