Seedling & Sapling CORE Jun 23-25

Consensus this week for spirit week: Free time and space to BE with one another ♡

Request granted ♡

Amongst a LOT of free time, where students chose to play cribbage, boggle, sew, read, nap, create and be together, we also got up to our typical project based learning, even in the last week of school ♡

Monday

Project #1: Create an obstacle course with water involved. A group of 5 students came together and planned out an entire relay and additional games course of afternoon fun! Check out Courtney's weekly for photos. It was lovely to observe the collaboration, strategizing and patience students tap into in these big creative moments. They had zero teacher input and a TON of fun!

Project #2: Finish milling the stewed tomatoes and turn the big pot into a smaller pot of pasta sauce. A small group of 5 set to work and remained diligent, wizhing to leave the outdoor water ply and relays to complete the task. Everyone did a fantastic job and the fi al product proved to be delicious ♡

Tuesday

Project #1: Make 13 pizza crusts from scratch and 2 burritos. I set up the dough to rise so students could form their personal pizza dough and decorate them for lunch. The process took a lot longer than I thought, and everyone had many chances to practice patience. All students were successful and had a blast learning how to form pizza dough and burritos. We celebrated the June, July and August birthdays today with oatmeal chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies for all. Our birthday friends will be turning 7, 8, 12, 13 and 14 this summer!!! We ventured outside for freebies after lunch and baked in the beautiful balmy heat in the shade of our school backyard.

Project #2: Free time!!! This one was easy ♡ while Khloe rested her eyes in cool corners and rocking chairs, the rest of us crafted, created, played cribbage and read books. It was a fabulous afternoon and we ran the time out of the clock when our timer didn't go off so we would know it was time for clean up. A great sign of a fully engaged classroom of students ♡

Wednesday

After our community morning circle sharing our favourite parts of the school year, we separated into two groups: those who wanted free play, crafting and games (uno, boggle and cribbage), and those who wanted to create a play together.

Over the entire morning, students dressed as characters in our play battled evil doers with crystals, magic spells and goodness to save the Earth Kingdom from the Poison Forest Growing on the Moon. Queen Crystal went on vacation to her Forest Garden for a much needed break, while Lilo was left with the keys to the castle, and welcomed Queen Neptune and her daughter Princess Violet (a Fairy) to manage the castle.

Toriel, a friend who lives in the castle, and the Mother of the magical Blueberry Bumblebee, became poisoned by the green light emitting from the Moon! Together, the troop battled the Evil King and Queen (the game players who were quickly drawn into the theater creation) to save Earth, rescue Princess Violet (who had her wings and magic removed by the evil King) and eventually turned all evildoers to dust with Crystal magic and amazing intentions.

Once the evildoers were gone, the grand Crystal Grid was created that finally rid the moon of the poison forest and restored its light back to white ♡

After lunch we enjoyed a hike outdoors to climb trees and play at the park, then returned for our drum out.

At end of day we drummed out the students we know are not returning in September, and said good bye to all our friends for the summer.

Thank you for the special gifts that arrived for me today...I used all of them in our creative play as Queen Crystal ♡ and it was a beautiful day of creative lights shining together.

Until we meet again my friends ♡

Create a beautiful summer ♡
