This week we finished up our sale preparation by completing product making, creating product signs, and expanding our learning around money. During our Letter & Number Magic centres, our senior Sprouts practiced counting money and figuring out which coin and bill combinations could equal amounts laid out for them. Our newest students created their rekenreks (counting board) to have handy during the sale next week. ‘Canada in my Pocket,’ was sung multiple times this week as we continue to learn the names and amounts of each of our Canadian coins.
Making our product signs involved a discussion around fair pricing and what that looks like. I shared with the Sprouts how much it cost to create each of our products and then we worked together to come up with a price that they would be comfortable paying if they were a customer, and that also provided our store with a profit. Other L&N centres included: Life Cycle of the Grey Wolf, Number Practice and Journals. We have also been learning about “vowel buddies”; how vowels can make different sounds when paired up with their buddies. I have introduced ‘ee’ and ‘ea’.
We made space to decorate our classroom for the coming Christmas season as well. Students decorated our tiny tree, hung ornaments around the room, and I hung our star lights on the Zen Magic tent. We will be working on a paper chain next week.
Today we celebrated Stella’s 8th birthday with student-made, double-chocolate cookies! The Sprouts wore some fun outfits and we played bingo and board games throughout the day.
It will be Connor’s turn for mystery bag on Monday.
