Sprouts: Mar 3-5 (CORE)

Writer: Courtney MatesicCourtney Matesic

This week we welcomed Roman to the Sprout room, for a trial week. Roman is 6 and had a great time connecting with the Sprouts and learning about our classroom and school.

As we tapped the Maple trees in our backyard this week, our readings and some of our lessons were centred around this activity. I introduced our plant of the month: Sugar Maple. We learned how to identify this specific type of maple by discussing the difference in leaf shape and bark colour/texture between maples. As there are no leaves growing yet, we discussed the importance of bark identification and used our knowledge of the backyard maples to guess which bark was the sugar maple, in a guessing game. Students completed an identification colouring sheet and also explored circumference at our Letter & Number Magic centres. The students have also been enjoying diving deeper into number sense and understanding new strategies to work with when they are adding.

Kennley made her Food Magic project today: strawberry milkshakes! She did a wonderful job with each step and was very excited to share her creation with her classmates. 🍓

It will be Barrett’s turn for Mystery Bag on Monday, March 17th.

Enjoy the March break! 😊
