We are in Christmas Mode! 🎅🏻
This week our Letter & Number Centres had a Christmas theme, while incorporating letter identification, digraphs/letter buddies (ch & th), number recognition with tally marks, short vowel sounds and Christmas card writing.
Much creation took place as well while we made gifts for parents and our secret Santas. ✨
We finished our Burdock Herb Fairy story on Monday and took a look at some real burdock root today. Everyone tried a sip of Burdock root tea! It has a very strong, bitter & earthy flavour. We used our senses to describe the experience. Students have learned how Burdock tea supports digestion and a healthy immune system.
Reading some Christmas stories this week, Pine and its medicine also came up. We discussed how White Pine is another supportive plant for the immune system and talked about the differences between pine and spruce. On our Tuesday trek we ventured into the park to search for pine and came across Virginia Pine. We check out its needles and small pinecones. We also found some fir trees and spoke about the differences between the two.
We are all excited for a special Spirit WEEK next Monday-Wednesday! 🎄
To celebrate the season, there will be festive activities each day.
⭐️ Monday: Cookie baking + Dance Party
⭐️ Tuesday: Escape Room + Games Day
⭐️ Wednesday: Solstice Celebration, Feast & Costume Contest
On Wednesday students can dress up as their favourite Christmas character if they wish. This is completely optional. Throughout the week students are welcomed to wear pjs, Christmas outfits or whatever they like.
➡️ Please ensure your child has their drum at school on Wednesday.
➡️ Our feast on Wednesday will consist of meatballs, mashed potatoes, carrots and cookies. Send your child with a full lunch if they aren’t a fan of the above. If they will be eating the feast, they will still need snacks sent for eating throughout the day.
➡️ Please send an extra bag with your child on Wednesday to assist them in carrying home gifts, crafts, their drum etc.
Thank you!😊
