Our snowy week started off with a recap of Share the Magic Day. Students shared their excitement and proud moments. We made space to count our earnings, using skills we had learned over the last couple of weeks. Our total was $182!! After paying back our material fees, each Sprout who created and sold, made $23!! 👏🏼 The students were extremely proud of themselves and those who have been with us for multiple years recognized that this was the most we had ever made! For that, we are very grateful for the community’s support. ❤️
Using their number sense, the students created $23 each, their own way. We discussed how and why this can look differently depending on the bills and coins used. Each Sprout should have come home with a small plastic bag yesterday, with their name on it.
We also found the winners of our free table items, from the bow guessing jar. We had 4 winners: Kennley, Papa Gary, Eugene, & Preston. As Kennley was the closest to 49, she got two free items and the other 3 got one. 👏🏼
Students engaged in Letter & Number Magic centres throughout the week to cap off some learning prior to moving into our two weeks of Christmas-themed activities. We also spent the afternoons decorating the classroom (more) and thoroughly enjoying the snow!
During morning circle this week, we shared with the students the concept of Secret Santa, as we will be doing this type of gift exchange on the last core day before the holiday break. It’s an abstract concept for the Sprouts to grasp as we do not give out the name of who has who. This is because we have experienced many students sharing who they have out of excitement. Each student instead got a number with a “B” or “G” indicating “boy” or “girl”. That is as much information as they are given. In class, we will create gifts for our Secret Santas. Nothing needs to be done at home. Though the Sprouts may not quite understand the concept, everyone will throughly enjoy the exchange when it takes place. ☺️
