Seedlings & Saplings CORE March 17-19

This week students got busy prepping our greenhouse for little seedlings, discussing preliminary actions for our school garden and rearranging the classroom so it can be the site of the new TSOM Hostipal!! There are no pictures yet because we are waiting for a grand reveal. Some creative play began on Spirit Day, as two Human babies and one Pokémon were born. A group of very keen students supported the organization process so far. They were efficient and organized. Lots of conversation around organization happened as well. We have a great amount of classroom resources, and now everyone will be very familiar with where they all are.

We completed our sap collection for this season as well and have been exploring in our math time measurement and volume, specifically cm, inches, Litres and Gallons. We all worked through some challenges in the math and we all utilized our class calculators to support our math. We looked at our first answers and realized they made no sense....when we looked into the reason why, we learned that we manipulated the equation improperly....so we fixed that up and everything made sense again! In total we collected 68L of sap from our two trees over one week. The first 35 L was boiled down this week and the rest will be completed next week.

We made space this week to review our Badge Work Flow and created a preliminary chart that we can post on our wall as a reminder of badge expectations. Students chose to spend all their free time (Spirit Day included) on badge work this week, with many students completing posters and our graduating saplings working on new lessons that are sure to be a hit!

All students were so free and connected during our time outdoors this week. We got to the big park where many students found many ways up the equipment (not how they are intended to of course). It was a blessing to experience the growth in competence and confidence that many students showed.

On Monday we welcomed Courtney Roddis back to our community to share wisdom around chakras, meditation, breath work and awareness of self. Everyone enjoyed the meditation time and many students continued to engage in the meditation each day throughout the week.

Spirit Day we celebrated Spring Equinox with song and drums and celebrated our birthday peeps as well. Special mention to our cookie crew who created letter shaped cookies for our birthday people!!! Happy March birthdays to Mason, Preston and Courtney!!
