Seedlings & Saplings CORE Feb 10-12

Writer: Jessica SmallsJessica Smalls

We started off our week diving back into our morning routine with movement, meditation and journaling.

Our language centers revolved around finishing up our rhymes and preparing for spelling tests this week with typing and word practice. Silent reading was a staple for our morning as well, as I will be sitting with students throughout the next couple weeks to observe how their reading is progressing.

Our math centers included silent subitizing, math worksheets focused around one digit by one digit multiplication for the Seedlings and long division for the Saplings. I could feel the concentration in the room as students worked through their math questions.

In magic centers this week, we spent more time learning about body magic with a short video showing how the respiratory system works, and a craft to create breathing lungs so we can see the work in action. We also continued on with a variety of breaths to notice how they felt in our bodies.

We explored our plants from January that we didn't have a change to get to, which included SnowDrop, Balsam For Tree, Marshmallow and Lemon Balm. Students started working in small groups to create a group presentation they will present next week.

On our Spirit Day Wednesday, we enjoyed creating valentines for friends and a little gift exchange before lunch, when we celebrated Isla and Lola's birthdays in February!! We also created space to complete a survey as a class to learn what our primary love language is!! We learned about the five ways to receive love. Results were compiled and included in the photos. I have a PDF for any families that would like to work more with love languages at home too.

Happy birthday friends! After lunch we had some special visitors....we snuck in from recess and were very quiet so we didn't startle any of our new friends from South West Pet, as they had stopped in for an animal parade and visit event. Thank you to our school families, as this in-school trip was made possible from our sweatshirt sales in the fall. Enjoy these photos!

Individual pictures of students will be sent to parents by private message.

Make a fantastic Valentine's and Family Day weekend everyone!!
