Our new morning routine is still going strong and students are rising to the challenges! Fancy party time has them asking for more music and it certainly gets them moving and connected to one another.
We had a challenge in language this week for the most spelling words in as many sentences as possible in 20 minutes. Kassidy won with 27 sentences with 50+ spelling words included!! Congrats Kassidy!!
As a class we tallied the results of our surveys last week and settled on the feast food for Wednesday's celebration. We had enough earnings from our sale day that it looks like we can handle creating the meal without donations from families!!!! This is always our goal and it appears as though we have finally achieved it!
We wrapped up our special project this week, and I can say that I am so proud of the dedication our students show to their learning. Many students took home work so they could be prepared and their diligent practice really showed!
Everyone got busy crafting and creating this week also. We have sewing, hot glueing, drawing, spirit painting, crocheting and more happening this week. All of the crafts that were made available were determined by the students so there was something for everyone. Over half the students are now complete with their secret Santa gifts!!! Our classroom tree was lovingly decorated this week and there is sure to be a sea of beautifully hand crafted gifts beneath it next week.
We also made it into the kitchen this afternoon to create vegan caramels and homemade marshmallows with some of our kitchen crew. These items were required to have overnight wait times, so we made them ahead.
Next week's celebrations for the Seedlings & Saplings is set to include the following:
Monday
AM - Dance Party with disco ball (Ellie & Mason offered to bring theirs in), chocolate fondue fountain and food for dipping (assorted fruit, gingerbread cookies, etc), vegan dill pickle dip and potato chips.
PM - Afternoon Hike and back for homemade hot cocoa and homemade marshmallows (vegan marshmallows will be provided as well)
Tuesday
AM - Elf Movie Themed escape room and Solstice escape rooms that small groups will experience throughout the morning....and the Sprouts may try again this year too!!!
PM - Prepping Food for Feast, Movie (Home Alone the original - if anyone has a DVD copy it would be lovely to have that sent in), open game time will be available for students not wishing to watch the movie. We will be popping the corn kernels from our garden harvest this day as well!
Wednesday
AM - Solstice Celebration and Secret Santa gift exchange. If your student has not created their gift, please follow our guidelines of handmade and for less than $5 in materials. Students had ample time to create for their secret Santa gift this week. Once this is complete, we will be prepping the rest of the feast.
FEAST - Students will be enjoying mashed potato/sweet potato, candied carrots, vegan ceasar salad, and meatballs/beanballs with honey garlic and tomato sauces. Lola's favourite cookies will be served for dessert as we honour her birthday in the month of December.
PM - Costume Contest - students are encouraged to come this day in pyjamas, a special costume, fancy clothes, or participate in the costume contest by dressing up as their favourite character from a Christmas movie. Judging will be completed by myself, Courtney and a student judge that is not participating and arrived in a costume. The winner will receive a bag of goodies from our Monday Fondue Party and a crown that says #1Costume.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
