Seedling & Sapling CORE Dec 2-4

We made it through this past week with a lot of snow!!

We started the week off learning the difference between linear and lateral thinking with riddles and tricky word problems. This will support students to understand that they do not get to make up their own details based on what they know, rather we focus on facts. This exercise also brings up how we can make assumptions when we are reasoning. We have added two lateral thinking brain teasers to our morning routine.

Our entire morning routine shifted also and students had input regarding what they wanted. We will be starting each morning off with a dance party for one song, our Brain Gym Practice (water, buttons/tapping, and hookups), then a crystal meditation, journaling, brain teasers and silent reading.

In math this week we wrapped up our business immersion by counting all of our money in individual businesses, and as a group tallied it all up. In reflection, this Share the Magic day was our best yet from my perspective. 12 student businesses made it all the way to sales, income and profits!! I am very proud of ALL efforts made.

As a school, the income that flowed through the building on share the magic day was: $1600.95!!!!!

The profits created for 12 student businesses, plus the Sprout Store and Seedling & Sapling Store was: $980.20!!!! All 12 student businesses were able to pay back 1/3, 1/2 or ALL of their materials fees and they are looking forward to our next business immersion time in the Spring and our next sale. Congrats everyone!!!

We moved from business wrap up right into brainstorming for our Spirit Week, which includes our holiday feast, winter Solstice celebration, Secret Santa Gift Exchange, and a few additional items the students wanted to create for themselves. We will share more about this next week.

Our afternoons were spent tidying up and organizing our business materials for next time. Once we were complete with that, we started crafting for our Secret Santa gifts (we drew blind numbers on Monday morning at circle time) and creating Christmas crafts for fun.

It was a great week with lots of snow too, so everyone got busy outdoors too.
