OUTDOOR Dec 12 & 13

THURSDAY

With the temperature at -21 with the wind chill this morning we altered our program to be inside for the morning and coldest part of our day.

We enjoyed an extended morning circle with lots of movement and a magical dance party. Our sit spot time has students reflecting on their inside feelings and much of the sharing was very wise.

After morning circle we dove into a weaving craft! Students learned how to weave with yarn and a cardboard loom. They have started making a bookmark for themselves.

After lunch and some wild antics and music, we hiked across the parking lot to play on the snow hills and then explored the ice in the park. We came back to sip warm tea and share about the few things we foraged.

FRIDAY

Today we spent our morning indoors again with a -18 temp. After our regular morning practices we had a Christmas music dance party, created our own yoga practices and then continued with our weaving from yesterday. While weaving the students listened to a story and engaged in some discussion around ice safety. We also made space to wrap some Christmas presents.

After lunch we went for our afternoon hike + forage. We found safe ice patches to play on in the park. We talked about the thickness of multiple icy spots and how we could tell if the ice was thick or thin.

We ventured back to the school to share a few foraged items and then sipped tea while playing a literacy game.
