Oct 31-Nov 1 (OUTDOOR)

On Halloween, the Sprouts went on a “touch” scavenger hunt. After playing in pumpkin guts the day before, we set out to see what else we could feel and describe. We recorded 9 in our Nature Guides and collected some pine cones while we were out as well. I supported the Sprouts in turning the pinecones into spiders, which we placed on our playground spider web.

On Halloween, the Seedlings and Saplings harvested and stripped the luffa from the garden, and pulled down the remainder of our cornstalks and ears of corn. Nearly 20 baby corn cobs were harvested and left in the backyard for animals. The corn stalks were added to our backyard tipi for added strength, and the luffa were hung on our spider web to dry out. Sorry, no pictures of this part of the day!

Today we all worked together to find a permanent spot for our log stools. We created a large circle and each student helped roll, push & heave logs from one side of the yard to the other. Teamwork, problem solving and new skills were used. Creating a spot for a new fire pit, Jessica modelled the skills of fire building as we get ready to offer the task to the students next week. We then set up our Jack-o-lanterns for a fun experiment using baking soda and vinegar. We observed the chemical reaction that happens between the two substances, within each of our pumpkins. It caused much excitement and joy!

Hawk visited us on both Thursday and Friday this week. We read about the messages that Hawk brings us within our Animal Spirit card deck and learned that Hawk comes to teach us to move when we need to and to take on another perspective. We are finding that the animal cards we pull are providing very accurate descriptions of the ways in which we are showing up.

Our afternoons were spent in the park this week enjoying the crunchy leaves, enjoying the ducks, experimenting with our energy, honouring the wild life around us, and playing on the swings and climbers.
