We welcomed Ana to our Outdoor Program this week, as she filled in for Jessica. The kids appreciated her presence and warmed up to her quickly.

After our regular morning routine, the Sprouts worked on creating a ‘seed book’ while the Seedlings & Saplings reviewed their learning around anatomy and its connection to nature. Ana also read more of Braiding Sweet Grass to her group and engaged in some discussion.

Today the Sprouts went on another Letter Sound nature hunt, exercised their raking skills and tree climbed. Since we couldn’t build a true fire due to the weather, students practiced creating the structure when we were in the forest.

Ana & Ethan extended their learning and discussion about ‘corn people’ from Braiding Sweet Grass and created some intricate leaf people from found materials.

We enjoyed our refreshing, rainy afternoon foraging hikes this week. We explored a different area of the park on Thursday, finding a place to play down by the creek and noticed the variety of leaves floating in the water. We also noticed the lichen on multiple trees along the way. We made space to visit the ducks today and practiced sending gentle loving energy to them.
