Mar 20-21 (OUTDOOR)

Thursday

We got to shift back into our warmer weather routine today, spending 90% of our day outdoors! We cheered for the Spring Equinox in circle and spoke about how the beginning of a new seasonal cycle gives us the opportunity to reflect on our usual practices and choose to shift them if we feel necessary. We applied this to our morning circle routine and chose to reorder our process. We also added in the option of walking meditations rather than sit spots and chose to add oms to end our circle, like we do during indoor days. The shift felt great for everyone!

After circle we made space for some spring cleaning of the backyard. We collected all of the large debris, while also filling a bucket for fire wood and another for creation. We also chose some nice stir sticks for the mud kitchen. We then pulled out our toys from the shed which was exciting. The students had a bean bag competition and then made space for some creation - we can do so much more without mittens!

This afternoon we got out for a rainy hike, noticing some signs of Spring (crocuses, green grass, clover, rain, birds, melted snow/puddles, a flowing creek without ice). The students wanted to have a photoshoot on the “stairs” so that we did! We foraged a few items and came back for sharing board and tea. Pam brought us Lime Balm to try and it was yummy!

Friday:

It was chilly this morning, so we started indoors with some art and play. After our morning circle, which they agreed to change on Thursday. We will reflect if this flow feels good and see if another change is needed. Spring is the wobbly season, so we must be flexible, too.

We read a book together, Mother Earth, while enjoying a snack. We then gathered to make some art using watercolours and coffee filters. Everyone's pieces were unique! Once dried, we put them up on the windows inviting the fresh colours of Spring inside.

Together we measured, mashed, and mixed our ingredients to bake banana chocolate chip mini muffins. We mashed an avocado as the healthy fat, and discussed what it would taste like with the bananas. We fed the red wiggler worms our compost!

We enjoyed some time in the backyard, building a sand castle, finding beautiful and interesting nature for our sharing board, and we sprinkled calendula seeds in places against the building and fencing. They will sprout when the soil warms. And we found some mosses!

We returned inside for our warm muffins and tea. The muffins were very much enjoyed!

After we said an early farewell to Lola - Ethan, Oakley and I did some alphabet yoga and enjoyed a sound bath with the singing bowl.

As the weather warms, we will shift our Fridays to 90% outside, doing art, and exploring the awakening Earth.

Have a wonderful weekend! 😊
