Thursday

We started with our usual practices and a dance party this morning. We then gathered in the kitchen to create some potions (natural food dyes)! We discussed the chemicals contained in synthetic food dyes and how they can affect our mood and actions. Using tumeric, chlorella and beet, we watched how the substances changed the colour of the water. The students noticed how the beet juice was easy to see through while the other two were not. This sparked discussion about translucency and opaqueness.

After lunch we used the dyes to colour the liquid of our snow volcano lava! This extended from learning in the Sprout room about the reaction of baking soda and vinegar. The students added the colour of their choice and each erupted their own volcano. They chose to build a huge volcano as a team afterwards, with multiple eruption points.

Friday

We had a wonderful day today. Lola, Oakley, and Ethan lead the way today. We're learning together. We started the day with our circle, a story, snacks, and then we prepared our apples for the crockpot. Everyone added a dash of cinnamon! Our story was about a Mother tree caring for her young sprout into the spring. I cut out some Mother trees for everyone to bring home. As above, so below.

Once the apples were simmering, we played some indoor games. After lunch, we bundled up for some outdoor play. With all this snow, we had mountain ranges to climb! We wandered into the forest to find fresh animal tracks. Before we got too cold, we wandered back for some tea and two bowl fulls of warm applesauce each. Our sharing board was a great way to end our day.
